Your Faith is your defence

Lately, I’ve been running low on faith. If I’m being honest, I’ve been a bit mad with God about a few personal things. And because of that, I’ve let my devotional time slip. I basically told God, “You know what? I quit.” So, in many ways, I’m writing this post as much for myself as anyone else.

The Holy Spirit, in His gentle way, reminded me of something He taught me a year or two ago: “Your faith is your defence.”

Ephesians 6 talks about the full armour of God, and one of the key pieces mentioned is the shield of faith. That phrase stuck with me, so I decided to dig a little deeper into what a shield actually represents in the context of armour.

A shield is a piece of defensive equipment designed to protect its wielder from physical attacks. It serves several important purposes in combat:

  • Blocking or deflecting blows from weapons like swords, axes, or arrows.

  • Acting as an offensive tool, like bashing an opponent.

  • Providing mobile cover, giving soldiers protection as they move forward or retreat.

Now, think about this in terms of your faith. Your faith is what protects you in the day of adversity. It’s your spiritual defence against life’s attacks—whether they come from the enemy, circumstances, or even your own doubts. That’s why, as a believer, it’s so important to do everything you can to hold onto your faith, no matter what.

Here’s the hard truth: life will throw everything it can at you to make you lower your shield. The enemy will whisper lies, circumstances will test you, and you might even feel like giving up altogether. But the moment you lower your shield, you become vulnerable to defeat.

This is a charge and a reminder for all of us: keep your shield up. No matter how tough the battle gets, the victory is in maintaining your defence. And your defence is your faith.

The battle may not be easy, but remember this—your shield isn’t just a piece of armour. It’s a promise, a reminder, and a tool for victory. Hold onto it.
